The subject of this work is “Vermehrung”, or multiplication. Multiplication lexically means ‘production of new individuals by already existing ones’ and does not only refer to biological cell division, but may also include the influence of communication between people, media, and their environment. Although the expansion begins with minor links, it gradually increases in size and affects not only individual change, but has also major impact on society, culture, politics and so on. I would like to portray this interpersonal communication as multiplication. Links can be found in all kinds of relationships and communication in general. Those links exist through repetitions and connections. You could compare this phenomenon with the numerous stars in the empty and silent universe. Just like these, an invisible cord connects us repeatedly. This work’s main materials are cable ties. Cable ties are thin plastic cords, which in everyday life connect price tags with the product. Although they connect two things, those things are completely different and the connections between them are connections that express materialism. The product’s value does not change according to its real inherent value, but rather according to the price that is attached to it. The method of ‘connecting’ such different things led me to the idea of ‘relationship and communication’. Successful communication means to understand each other by avoiding misunderstandings. However, we can observe how communication, different from the original intention, degenerates and multiplies. I want to show that if these individual connections come together, they can form groups, which then can constitute a larger organization. The forms, though, which seem to expand and tear, create not only a visual tension, but also an uncertainty as to when a connection might dissolve. Here I speak of an independent society that is based on individuals and I call this “Vermehrungsgesellschaft” (‘multiplication society’; ‘multiplication organization’). Although individuals can shape this organization, influences of other groups may interfere and this organization can be propagated and spread virally. I tried to visually represent the image of this multiplication like the numerous stars in the universe, those which constitute the Milky Way.

작품의 주제는 '번식하다 '이다. '붇고 늘어서 많이 퍼짐'이라는 사전적 의미를 갖는 '번식되다'는 세포를 통한 생물학적 번식만을 나타내지는 않는다. 그것은 사람과 사람 사이의 소통, 사람과 매체 그리고 주위의 모든 것에 영향을 받음을 말한다. 번식은 미미한 연결고리로 시작하지만 점차 방대한 힘을 가져 개인의 변화뿐만 아니라 사회, 문화, 정치등 다양한 분야에 까지도 영향력을 행사하게 된다. 나는이러한번식을사람과사람그리고나와모든것들의관계의소통에대해 이야기한다. 모든 관계와 소통엔 연결고리가 존재한다. 그것들은 서로 반복과 연결로 존재한다. 이것은 마치 우주속 고요하고 적막한 공간에 서로 간의 보이지 않은 힘으로 연결된 수많은 별과도 흡사하다. 이와 같이 우리은 보이지 않은 단단한 끈으로 수없이 반복적으로 연결되어있다. 작품의 주된 재료는 스트롱핀 이다. 가느다란 선으로 구성된 이 스트롱핀은 우리 생활의 대부분의 공산품에 가격표와 상품을 이어주는 플라스틱 끈이다. 두가지를 연결하고 있지만 그것들은 서로 다르고 물질만능주의를 표현라는 고리이다. 상품의 가치보단 가격에 의해 가치가 변하기도 한다. 이 재료의 연결이라는 방법이 어쩌면 서로 다른 것을 묶는다는 의미에서 나에게는 관계 또는 소통이라고 생각하였다. 소통이란 뜻이 서로 통하여 오해가 없음을 뜻한다. 하지만 지금 우리는 이러한 소통이 뜻하지 않게 번식하듯 퍼저나가는 것을 볼수있다. 이러한 하나하나의 관계들이 모여 어떠한 그룹을 형성하고 또 여러 그룹이 모여 큰 사회를 구축해나아가는 이미지를 보여주려한다. 하지만 이런 이미지속에 늘어지고 끊어질듯 표현한 형태들은 지금 현재의 시각적 긴장감과도 뭔가 끊어질지모른다는 미래적 위기감적 의미를 조성하였다. 나는 여기에서 독립적인 개개인들이 모여진 사회를 나만의 단어로 "번식사회"라 이야기한다. 왜냐하면, 개개인의 힘으로 이루어질수도 있지만 나의 힘과는 상관없이 바이러스 처럼 그룹들의 영향들로인해서도 퍼저나아갈수 있다는 점에서이다. 나는 이러한 번식처럼 퍼져나아가는 이미지를 우주 공간 속에 수많은 별들의 그룹인 은하수 처럼 표현하였다

Milchstrasse ('Via Lattea') Tema di questo lavoro è la 'moltiplicazione'. Con la parola 'moltiplicazione' si intende letteralmente “la produzione di nuovi individui attraverso altri preesistenti„. Con tale significato essa non fa riferimento unicamente alla divisione biologica delle cellule, ma può anche indicare l'influenza comunicativa tra persone, media e il loro ambiente. Per quanto tale moltiplicazione possa avere inizio con collegamenti minori, essa cresce gradualmente, esercitando la propria ascendenza non solo su cambiamenti individuali, ma anche su società, cultura, politica etc. Con questo lavoro intendo rappresentare questa comunicazione interpersonale come moltiplicazione. Queste connessioni hanno luogo in ogni relazione e comunicazione. Esse esistono attraverso ripetizioni e collegamenti. Si potrebbe paragonare questo fenomeno con le numerose stelle che si trovano nell'universo silenzioso e deserto: così come queste, anche noi siamo collegati ripetutamente e innumerevolmente da fili invisibili. Il materiale principale usato per questo lavoro sono fascette serracavo, sottili lacci di plastica che nella nostra quotidianità collegano il cartellino del prezzo ad un prodotto. Queste fascette collegano sì due oggetti, ma questi sono del tutto diversi e la loro connessione è espressione di materialismo. Il valore di un prodotto non dipende dal suo valore reale, ma dal prezzo che gli viene attribuito. La tecnica del collegare e il legame tra cose estremi così diversi mi ha probabilmente portato all'idea di relazione e comunicazione. Comunicare con successo significa comprendersi l'un l'altro senza fraintendersi. Ciò nonostante possiamo osservare come spesso la comunicazione degeneri e si moltiplichi. Con questo mio lavoro intendo mostrare come singoli collegamenti, unendosi tra di loro, formino gruppi e come questi gruppi si uniscano a loro volta a formare una società più grande. Le forme del mio lavoro, che sembrano espandersi e strapparsi, creano, oltre ad una tensione visiva, anche l'incertezza rispetto alla possibilità che qualche collegamento possa rompersi. In questo caso parlo di una società indipendente, basata su individui, che definisco come Vermehrungsgesellschaft ('società della moltiplicazione', 'società multipla') dovei singoli individui possono certo dare forma alla società, la quale però può essere moltiplicata ed estesa in modo virale tramite l'influenza di gruppi. Ho cercato di rappresentare visualmente l'idea di questa moltiplicazione come le numerose stelle nell'universo ,che formano la via lattea.

Das Thema dieser Arbeit ist die „Vermehrung“. Vermehrung bedeutet lexikalisch „Erzeugung neuer Individuen durch schon vorhandene“ und meint dabei nicht nur die biologische Zellteilung, sondern kann auch den Einfluss der Kommunikation zwischen Menschen, Medien und ihrer Umgebung beinhalten. Die Vermehrung beginnt zwar mit geringfügigen Bindegliedern, aber nimmt allmählich an Umfang zu und übt nicht nur Einfluss auf die individuelle Veränderung, sondern auch auf die Gesellschaft, Kultur, Politik usw. aus. Ich möchte diese zwischenmenschliche Kommunikation als Vermehrung darstellen. Es gibt Verknüpfungen in allen Beziehungen und Kommunikationen. Diese existieren durch Wiederholungen und Verbindungen. Man kann es mit den zahlreichen Sternen im stillen und öden All vergleichen. So wie diese sind wir mit einem unsichtbaren Band unzählige Male und wiederholt miteinander verknüpft. Das Hauptmaterial dieser Arbeit sind Kabelbinder. Kabelbinder sind dünne Plastikschnüre, die in unserem Alltag die Preisschilder mit dem Produkt verbinden. Sie verbinden zwar zwei Dinge, aber diese sind völlig unterschiedlich und sind Bindeglieder, die den Materialismus ausdrücken. Nicht wegen des Wertes eines Produkts, sondern wegen seines Preises verändert sich der Wert. Die Methode „verbinden“ und so unterschiedliches zusammenbinden brachte mich vermutlich auf die Idee der Beziehung und Kommunikation. Kommunikation bedeutet einander verstehen ohne Missverständnisse. Aber wir können beobachten, wie diese Kommunikation, anders als beabsichtigt, ausartet und sich vermehrt. Ich möchte zeigen, dass diese einzelnen Beziehungen, wenn viele zusammenkommen, Gruppen bilden und diese Gruppen zu einer großen Gesellschaft geformt werden. Aber die Formen, die sich zu dehnen und zu reißen scheinen, bilden außer der visuellen Spannung die Unsicherheit, wann etwas reißen könnte. Ich spreche hierbei von einer unabhängigen Gesellschaft, die auf Individuen basiert und nenne diese „Vermehrungsgesellschaft“, denn Individuen können diese Gesellschaft zwar gestalten, aber durch Einflüsse von Gruppen kann diese Gesellschaft virenartig vermehrt und verbreitet werden. Das Bild dieser Vermehrung habe ich versucht visuell darzustellen wie die vielen Sterne im All, die die Milchstraße bilden.
